We all know the benefits that come with gifting a teddy bear, because they are wonderful transitional objects, and this year we may need even more comfort. Although flowers and chocolates are classic Valentines gifts, teddy bears last longer than flowers and chocolates, and in the days of social distancing most couples are spending more and more time apart. Although you may not be able to hug your valentine this Valentine’s Day, you can always send them a cuddly bear to hug in your place! Teddy bears are great cuddly transitional objects that make time spent apart from loved ones more ‘bear-able’ and can even comfort them when they’re sad or feeling alone in any way. We aren’t the only ones interested in Valentine’s Day bears and why they’re so popular. Vox published their own research and findings in this article, where it turns out teddy bears are sought out because they show you care. A traditional Valentine’s teddy bear you can pick up at any pharmacy has meaning because you took the time to pick one up and gift it. Not to mention, their easy accessibility and relatively low price tag makes it a classic gift for young couples. Seeing as most young couples probably don't live with their special someone, a teddy bear is a nice reminder of their loved one. The more you look into the history of Valentine's Day gifts, you come to realize it’s not really about monetary value or expectations, but what the gifts represent. Teddy bears often symbolize innocence because they are often seen as childhood friends. This makes them great gifts for young couples, and budding relationships! When the romance is still innocent and sweet, a teddy bear can be a great reminder of these sentiments as the relationship develops.
